IDHHC serves as a conduit of information about hearing loss to the State of Illinois. This information includes public awareness about hearing loss, demographic information on hearing loss in Illinois, statutes at the Federal and State level affecting the deaf and hard of hearing, a statewide captioned movie calendar, and a statewide calendar where organizations can post events related to hearing loss. The mission of the Illinois School for the Deaf is to educate students who are deaf or hard of hearing to be responsible, self-supporting citizens.
Hearing and Vision Connections strives to educate parents and professionals who are working with children with a vision or hearing loss.
Kline House provides direct service to families and their children diagnosed with hearing loss from birth to age 3 living within a 100 mile radius of Jacksonville, IL. Consultative service is available statewide.
The Institute is a free, one-week program in June for parents of children (up to age five) who have a significant hearing loss. While on the campus of the Illinois School for the Deaf, parents attend daily classes and learn about hearing loss, their child's individual strengths and needs and have the opportunity to meet other parents.
